Photo guidelines
The photo you send is the single biggest factor in how the portrait turns out. Here is what to aim for.

What works best
- Good light. Daylight or a bright room. Natural light beats a flash every time.
- Close and level. Crouch to your pet’s eye line and fill the frame with their head, neck and chest.
- Facing the camera. Other angles work, but your pet will appear at that angle in the finished portrait.
- Sharp and unfiltered. Filters shift their colouring, and we’ll match what we see.
- Sitting or standing reads better than lying down.
Worth knowing
- Collars, leads, bows and outfits are not illustrated. The portrait is your pet.
- Phone photos are fine. Anything from a recent phone has plenty of detail.
- Screenshots and social downloads are usually too compressed. Send the original if you have it.
- One pet per portrait. Get in touch if you’d like more than one together.
- Older photos are welcome. Send what you have. We work with these often and can usually make them work.
Not sure yours will work?
Upload it anyway. Every order gets a free digital proof before anything prints, and a real person checks each photo. If yours won’t give a good result, we’ll reach out before we charge ahead. You can revise until you love it.
