What a custom dog portrait from Togo & Stark is

You upload one photo of your dog. We create the artwork in the style you choose, on the backdrop you choose, with your dog's name on it if you want it there. Then we send you a free digital proof, and nothing is printed until you have looked at it and said yes. If something is off, you tell us and we revise it, as many times as it takes. When you approve it, the portrait is printed museum-grade on archival paper, framed in real wood, and shipped ready to hang.

That order of events matters more than anything else on this page. Plenty of places will turn a photo of a dog into a picture. The proof is what makes the result yours rather than a surprise.

Seven styles, one dog

The row above shows three of our own dogs, a beagle, a husky and a border collie, in every style we make. The Modern Pet Portrait is a clean illustration on a flat gallery colour, and the safest choice for a room you do not know. The Line Art Pet Portrait reduces your dog to a few confident lines and suits pared-back interiors. The Painted Pet Portrait has visible brushwork and reads as art first. The Geometric Pet Portrait rebuilds your dog from crisp facets, and works especially well for dogs with strong markings. The Carved Wood Pet Portrait gives warm, layered wood tones for rustic and earthy rooms. The 3D Cartoon Pet Portrait turns your dog into a sculpted character from an animated film, and children tend to pick it. And The Day Jobs gives your dog a profession, from astronaut to chef, played completely straight.

Every style is available in six backdrop colours (The Day Jobs offers six personas instead), and every one holds the likeness: the eyes, the ears, the expression that is unmistakably your dog. Which dogs work

Any breed, any age, any coat. Long fur, short fur, brindle, merle, one ear up and one ear down. The artwork is made from your specific dog, not from a breed template, so a mixed breed comes out as exactly the dog you have. Each portrait features one dog; if you would like two together, get in touch before you order and we will tell you what is possible.

The photo does more work than the style. A sharp, front-facing photo in good light, close enough to fill the frame with your dog's head and chest, gives every style its best result. Phone photos are fine. Our photo guidelines show good and bad examples, and if you are not sure yours is good enough, upload it anyway: a real person looks at every photo before any artwork is made, and we will tell you early if we need another.

Sizes, frames and files

Portraits come in 8x10, 12x16 and 18x24 inches, framed in black, white, wood or dark wood, as an unframed print, or as a digital file you can print yourself. The framed sizes arrive ready to hang. If you are choosing for a specific wall, the 12x16 is the size most people hang alone above a console or a bedside table, and the 18x24 holds its own above a sofa.

Why the proof is free

Because it is the point. You would not buy a portrait of your dog without seeing it, and we would not print one you had not seen. The proof usually arrives within a day of ordering, revisions are free and unlimited, and if the finished piece arrives damaged or does not match the proof you approved, we remake it or refund you. A dog portrait as a gift

A portrait of someone's dog is the gift they never expect and never forget. Can I see my dog's portrait before it prints?

Yes, always. Every order includes a free digital proof with unlimited revisions, and nothing is printed until you approve it.

Do you remove collars and leashes?

By default, yes: the artwork shows your dog without a collar, harness or leash, so the portrait reads as a portrait. If you want the collar kept, say so when you order or when you see your proof.

What if my dog is a mixed breed?

Then the portrait is a mixed breed. The artwork is made from your photo, not from a breed template, so whatever your dog looks like is what you get.

How long does it take?

The proof usually arrives within a day. Once you approve it, the portrait goes into production and ships; our shipping policy has the current delivery estimates for your region.
